Maarten van Ham, el Errante, de Uitvreter
This Dutch wanderer came to the dry surroundings of Toledo years ago for love. After restoring his family home in a centuries-old olive grove and acquiring the right appropriate tools for a simple life, he spends his days freely enjoying creating woodturning, sculpture, and ceramics. His works are crafted from materials found on the farm, as well as the wood and objects encountered along his way. Each piece is unique, with its final form dictated by the materials at hand, inspiration drawn from the Castilian countryside, and the wandering life. The tree’s life is always respected; the wood is treated with tung oil, a traditional oriental oil suitable for food use, or wax.
Using olive wood from our ancient groves, I aim to reveal the natural beauty and character in each piece. My work transforms wood into art, creating vases, sculptures, and objects that resonate on a personal level. Each piece is a testament to my dedication, craftsmanship, and way of life.
I want to make and build what brings me joy. I aim to create pieces that are worthwhile, contribute to a better world, and preserve their essence. I strive for excellence, constantly improving my skills and reimagining my designs. My goal is to craft pieces that not only serve a purpose but also evoke emotions and resonate with those who value my handcrafted, one-of-a-kind creations.
